Health insurance for foreigners

Comprehensive health insurance for foreigners in the Czech Republic — this is a type of insurance policy, which provides access to comprehensive medical care throughout the country on an equal footing with persons covered by state insurance.

• Family reunification. Spouses, children, and parents who move to the Czech Republic under the family reunification program and are not eligible for state insurance (VZP).
• Special residence permit for Ukrainians. For citizens of Ukraine who plan to apply for a special residence permit but are not officially employed.
• Changing jobs while your work card is valid. If there is a break between changing employers, the person temporarily drops out of the state insurance system during this period. During this time, it is necessary to take out a private comprehensive insurance policy in order to maintain continuous coverage.
• Children under 18 years of age with a long-term visa. If a child comes to the Czech Republic on a long-term visa, they will need private health insurance until they obtain a residence permit.

If you fall ill, first call your insurance company's assistance service. The operator will select a clinic, contact the doctor, and confirm payment for treatment. After that, you come to the appointment and do not pay on the spot—the insurance company covers the costs.

If you go to the clinic without calling, you will most likely have to pay for the treatment yourself and then submit documents for a refund. Compensation may not be full, especially if the clinic is expensive.
