Car insurance in the Czech Republic consists of a range of policies that protect you, your vehicle, and other road users from the financial consequences of traffic accidents, theft, vandalism, and natural disasters.
There are two main types of auto insurance on the Czech market:
Compulsory Liability Insurance (POV) — mandatory insurance. This insurance is required by law for every vehicle owner. It covers damage you cause to third parties—their vehicles, property, or health. You cannot legally operate a vehicle without POV insurance: a fine is imposed for each day you are uninsured.
Comprehensive Auto Insurance (HAV). Voluntary insurance for your own vehicle. Covers damage resulting from accidents caused by you, theft, vandalism, and natural disasters.
Supplementary Insurance (Additional Options):
- Glass insurance (windshield and other windows)
- collision with an animal
- natural disasters (hail, falling trees, flooding)
- injuries to the driver and passengers
- 24/7 assistance in the Czech Republic and Europe
- GAP insurance (the difference between the purchase price and the market value of the vehicle in the event of a total loss)
- Renting a replacement vehicle while your car is being repaired
We’ll put together a package combining POV, HAV, and supplemental insurance tailored to your vehicle, driving style, and budget.
